Attempted Burglary on Lowell Street

There was an attempted burglary in the 700 block of Lowell on Tuesday, December 11. The resident came home about 4:30, walked to the back door to let the dog out, and discovered a burglar breaking into the back window. The burglar had broken through the 8 foot fence, removed the gate hardware to get into the yard, and was drilling to open a back window.

When confronted, the burglar came towards the resident (who was inside the house) but fled when he realized the resident was already on the phone talking to 911.

The burglar was in his early 30s-40s, Hispanic, medium build, looked to be healthy and in good shape, well-groomed, short dark hair with some gray. He was clean shaven, wearing nice clothes and work boots, about 5’4”-5’8” in heights. He was wearing a tan work jacket with a hood on it. There may have been a hood under the jacket. He was described as looking “clean and respectable.” The victim thought he “may have been a meter reader at first glance.”

It is suspected that he chose to break into a smaller window because the assumption may have been a smaller window would not be connected to an alarm system.

Please call 911 if you have any information or see anything suspicious.

Truck and Car Vandalized in 5600 Block of Victor

A truck in the 5600 block of Victor was broken into late Tuesday night, Nov. 13 or early Wednesday morning. Tools and a laptop were stolen. On Wednesday night, Nov. 14, or early Thursday morning, a truck was burglarized in the same block. The CD player was stolen and the dash was damaged.

The 5500 and 5600 blocks of Victor have recently seen more than their share of trouble. A vacant house in the 5600 block of Victor was burglarized on Sunday night, Nov 11 or early Monday morning. The front door was kicked in and about $1,000 worth of tools was stolen. Around November 10, a house in the 5500 block of Victor had its back door handle lock jimmied open. The would-be-burglars were not able to get in because there was a deadbolt up higher.

Please be alert and if you see anything suspicious, call 911.

Cars Burglarized

A car was burglarized around midnight Sunday, October 28. The car, parked at Junius at Ridgeway. was broken-into. There wasn’t much to take—sunglasses and small stuff was stolen. The small change was ignored. A neighbor saw the whole incident and called police. The three thieves were in a white 4-door sedan, Hispanic with the driver having a partially shaved head. Two stayed in the car while the third broke into the car.

Thieves went through another car in the 5500 block of Worth the same night and took several CDs, a mapsco from the trunk and some small change. The car was not damaged.

Suspicious White Truck

On Friday, October 26, two thin Hispanic women in their 20s were observed breaking into a house on Worth Street in the afternoon. They were driving a white truck. On the same day, a white Dodge pickup was seen parked in the alley behind Gaston by a house on Dumont around 1:30 p.m. As soon as they were noticed they drove away. The license number was 8ZZ 1GI or 8ZZ 1G1. The occupants were a Hispanic male and female.
