Last Saturday night, early Sunday morning, a resident in the 5500 block of Victor (corner of Beacon/Victor) was awakened by a guy who was ringing the doorbell, knocking and scratching on the door, and jiggling the doorknob. The suspect was young, white, had neatly cut brown hair and was wearing an Oxford shirt. He wanted to be let in because “somebody was following him and was after him.”

The police were called immediately and the young man was taken into custody. The police thought that he was high on drugs.

If there is any doubt, reasonable or unreasonable, call 911. Let the police handle the situation. Somebody knocking on your door at that hour is probably high on drugs or wants to rob you.

Junius Heights Crime Alert
July 9, 2005
Thursday night, July 7 a car was vandalized in the 700 block of Parkmont. A window was broken, and the stereo system and a MP3 player were taken. The owner did practically everything correct: the car was parked in a driveway in front of another car, by a bedroom window and by security lights. The thieves ignored the parked cars on the street, easier targets, and instead went for the one in the driveway.

As a suggestion, please hide everything in your parked vehicles that might interest vandals. These crimes can be frustrating because an automobile stereo system can’t be “hidden,” and .the break-ins can be seen as random.

If you see somebody who appears to have more than a passing curiosity in a neighbor’s car, please call 911 to report a “suspicious” person.

A house in the 5500 block of Junius was burglarized the night of June 22. The vandals torn a door frame off, broke a window, and tried to steal a window air conditioning unit. The thieves did steal a sofa and two TVs. The house was ransacked and the police suspect that the burglars were looking for drugs as well as merchandise. There was nobody at home at the time.

Also on the night of June 22, somebody dumped a large pile of brush in the street in the 600 block of Augusta. This happens periodically in the same location. The resident who reported the mess claims they must open the tailgate of the pickup, give it some gas, and watch the mess fall unto the street. If somebody sees this happening and can give us a description of the vehicle, we’d be grateful. Junius Heights is not a dump for other peoples’ trash.

There have been reports of a young Hispanic male going door to door asking for money because his car ran out of gas. When he is refused money, he gets in his car and drives away.
