On Monday, June 13, the police raided a house in the 5530 block of Junius they suspected of being a front for the selling of drugs. Two individuals were arrested, including one the police believe may be a big fish. Cocaine and heroin were found in the house.

The arrests were made because watchful residents noticed suspicious patterns of behavior and notified the police. This is the second big drug arrest in the area we’ve had in several months. Both came about because of the community’s watchfulness. As Junius Heights continues to improve, the illegal pharmacies are shutting down.

At lot of the crime in the area is caused by the drug traffic, i.e., addicts looking for something to steal to pay for their habit. We had rough weeks earlier this spring but things have settled down recently. We hope we can keep it this way.

For emergencies call 911. For persistent, suspicious patterns of behaviors, please call Sergeant Gonzales at 214-670-4413. He will work with you and he is committed to making East Dallas a better place. Thanks.

A stolen car crashed into a house in the 5500 block of Victor on Tuesday. The car took out a Japanese maple and damaged a column in the front of the house. We are lucky the car stopped before it ran into the living room. There currently is no description of the driver. He fled the scene before the police arrived. The strange thing is the house is located in the middle of the block—not close to an intersection. Is this some kind of gang initiation? Sometimes a gang member proves his worth by stealing a car.

Two Hispanic girls in a black older car with a rough-running engine were seen yesterday on Parkmont running through yards and picking flowers. School is out and the mischief season has begun.

A resident was recently followed into her garage by a Hispanic man. She screamed and was able to frighten him off. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times.

A person of interest has been arrested in the string of fires that were set over Memorial Day weekend. Firemen were called to put out fires from six locations from Live Oak to around Abrams at Gaston. The fires were set in trash bins, a house and condominium undergoing construction, and at Bethany Christian Church

There has been a report of a skinny guy going door to door telling people he is thinking about starting a newspaper route and asking residents if they would like to be on the route. It probably is bogus. Most likely he is (1) knocking on your door to see if people are at home and/or (2) casing the house for a future robbery. To the best of my knowledge, he doesn’t present any newspaper credentials. Other residents have called 911 to report a suspicious person.
