Yard of the Month April 2022
The recipient of the Junius Heights Historic District Yard of the Month award for April goes to Ryan Lee and Pierre Renold at 5931 Victor Street. Ryan moved to Junius Heights In October of 2014 and she is the fifth owner of this charming home. What sold her on Junius Heights was the eclectic, diverse, and growing community with its surrounding walkable activities. All of her neighbors were extremely welcoming and she has found this neighborhood to be a perfect fit. One of the biggest selling points to the house was it existing backyard garden which was beautifully landscaped with turk’s cap lilies, irises, cannas, rose and rock rose bushes, plus more. Gardening is one of the main things that she does to de-stress from her work career. Nothing brings her more happiness than the time she spends in the sunshine watching the hummingbirds, butterflies and birds enjoy the peaceful yard. At this time Salvador Huerta takes care of the lawn and she handles all the gardening both in front and back. Ryan’s favorite features in the front are the tri-colored lantana that bloom in late spring and her new star magnolia. This year her house turns 100. It was built in 1922 by the famous Dallas architect T.J. Galbraith for the financier J.W. Blake. Her purchase of the property included the original architectural blueprints which are currently framed, preserved, and hanging in the central hall. The attention to detail and craftsmanship of the home make it a stand out among the many properties in Junius Heights, and many of its original features are restored and in great condition such as crank windows and the original built-in breakfast banquet and china cabinet. The house is also wrapped in windows, totaling 28. Congratulation Ryan, and happy centennial birthday to you house!
