Junius Heights Yard of the Month June 2022
The Junius Heights Historic District Yard of the Month Award for June 2022 goes to the the Chounlamany family at 730 Ridgeway. Kate and Max moved into Junius Heights in early 2017 after living overseas for over a decade while working for the State Department. Max is originally from East Dallas and was very familiar with the neighborhood. When they decided to buy the house, they knew we were coming “home.”
The house was in significant disrepair, requiring lots of work when they bought it. However, the house’s charm and the neighborhood’s walkable nature were major bonuses. They both love being in the city’s center with all its benefits and convenience of city life while maintaining its suburban roots, lined with mature trees with established parks and trails.
“As first-time homeowners, the past five years have been an experiment to see what could survive the hot Texas heat. The flower bed and yard were a significant undertaking. The design came about holistically through survival of the fittest. The daisies and coneflowers were a remarkable discovery when we found that they could survive the winter and summers. All the other elements were added as fillers to the flowerbed. All in all, our house reflects how much we love being in this neighborhood.” –Kate
Congratulations Kate and Max! We’re so happy you chose Junius Heights as your community!
