Yard of the Month February 2026
Congratulations to our February Yard of the Month Winner!
We’re thrilled to congratulate Nancy Sanford of 715 North Glasgow for receiving the Yard of the Month honor! Her home and garden are a beautiful reflection of the charm, care, and creativity that make Junius Heights such a special place to live.
A Home with History
Built in 1923 by renowned architect Clifford D. Hutsell, this Spanish Colonial gem stands out for its smaller, more feminine scale compared to Hutsell’s larger Lakewood Drive homes. The exterior still showcases its original character—twisted stone columns, arched brick openings, and authentic Spanish tiles that have stood the test of time.
Nancy’s Restoration Journey
A Dallas native who grew up in a historic Highland Park home, Nancy has been part of our neighborhood for nearly 20 years. After purchasing this home in 2016, she approached restoration with respect and reverence—choosing to restore rather than renovate, preserving the home’s charm while making only necessary updates for modern living.
Her passion extends outdoors as well. As a graphic designer with a love for detail, Nancy climbed onto her roof to study the shape of her yard from above, inspiring the perfect curves and layered plantings that now define her landscape. She personally undertook much of the work, digging out old roots and planting English Ivy, Liriope, and a stunning Japanese Maple that brings vibrant fall color. She also rejuvenated a nearly 70-year-old Chinese Photinia, opening up sight lines and breathing new life into the yard’s structure.
A Yard Full of Life
Nancy restored the once-struggling St. Augustine grass with thoughtful watering and careful maintenance, transforming it into the lush, healthy lawn it is today. With layered plantings and evergreen structure, the yard maintains beauty year?round—no small feat during Dallas winters!
Stories from the Past
Nancy once connected with a granddaughter of one of the home’s early owners. She learned that the original homeowner served on the Dallas City Council in the 1930s, and that he and his wife took the trolley downtown to work. The living room once hosted elocution lessons for young women attending Woodrow Wilson High School—an enchanting touch of neighborhood history.
Nancy’s dedication to revitalizing both the home and yard reflects her love for historic preservation and the simple joy of watching things grow. Her thoughtful eye and hard work have created a space that is peaceful, beautiful, and full of surprises throughout the year.
Thank you, Nancy, for your commitment to restoring this historic treasure and for helping make Junius Heights a premier place to call home.
