Yard of the Month July 2025
Congratulations to longtime resident Esperanza Mandujano of 709 Huntley, our July Yard of the Month honoree in the Junius Heights Historic District!
Esperanza first moved to Junius Heights in 1994, purchasing a charming 1915 duplex from a neighbor who became like a second mother. Originally from the state of Michoacán, Mexico, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1983 and worked tirelessly as a housekeeper before retiring.
Now happily retired, she pours her heart into her garden—with her adorable pup Francisco always nearby. Esperanza estimates she spends at least four days a week tending her yard, and the results speak for themselves!
Seasonal blooms like Echinacea, Chrysanthemum, Dianthus, and Hydrangea currently fill her colorful beds, while the elegant potted Triplant creates a stunning welcome at her front door. Roses—especially red and pink—are her favorites, and she keeps her garden vibrant year-round.
Her stories of how the neighborhood has grown over the decades reflect the deep roots she’s planted here—both literally and figuratively. Where once Huntley had few trees, now mature canopies line the street.
Esperanza says Junius Heights is a safe, welcoming, and friendly community—and we couldn’t agree more. We’re grateful to neighbors like Esperanza who help make this a truly special place to call home!
