Yard of the Month September 2026
JHHD September 2026 Yard of the Month
LeeAnna McComas

Congratulations to LeeAnna McComas, our September Yard of the Month recipient in the Junius Heights Historic District!
After collectively pushing through another very hot Texas summer, an escape to the Italian Riviera sounds pretty wonderful right about now. But if a Mediterranean vacation wasn’t in the cards this year, the next best thing might just be a stroll past LeeAnna’s home. With its cheerful yellow-and-white parasol shading the front porch, it’s easy to imagine settling in with an Aperol spritz and pretending the Mediterranean is just beyond the front yard.
LeeAnna purchased her 1922 Tudor-style home in March, but her connection to it began before the renovation was even complete. Following the passing of its longtime owner, the house sat vacant for several years while going through probate and had fallen into considerable disrepair. Eventually, a developer purchased it and took on the restoration. Though historic homes aren’t typically his specialty, he had a personal connection to this one through a family member who had previously owned it, making the project a labor of love.
While the renovation was still underway, LeeAnna happened to drive by and, out of curiosity, stopped to take a look. The crews were still working inside but graciously showed her around, where she fell in love with the house almost immediately. She loved the Tudor architecture, the cozy, defined rooms, and especially the abundance of windows and natural light.
A lifelong DFW resident who grew up in the suburbs north of Dallas, LeeAnna discovered East Dallas about four years ago and quickly fell for its character and energy. When the time came to find a home of her own, she knew she wanted to stay in the area. LeeAnna especially loves the beautiful mature trees and says her neighbors have been incredibly welcoming since the day she arrived.
Once the beautifully restored house was hers, LeeAnna turned her attention outside. Her philosophy toward life and gardening is simple: rest, restore and recover.
Along the kitchen side of the house, she planted olive trees that complement the Italian and Mediterranean influences found inside. She also brought several palm trees from her previous home — no small undertaking considering they’re more than 20 years old and weigh upwards of 500 pounds each!
Working with a landscaper, LeeAnna created a yard that feels lush and welcoming while complementing the home’s historic architecture. A row of rose bushes is a special nod to her middle name, Rose, while Annabelle hydrangeas add another classic touch. Seasonal flowers bring pops of color to the beds, and Stadium Zoysia provides a hardy lawn well suited to our Texas conditions.
And restoring a home and transforming its landscape apparently weren’t enough projects for one year! LeeAnna has also opened a new classical Pilates studio (Vocavo Pilates) near Ross and Hall avenues in East Dallas. Her own journey with Pilates led her to fall in love with the practice and eventually travel to New York to train as a classical Pilates instructor. Today, she especially loves that her work gives her the opportunity to help people every day.
At home, LeeAnna shares her Mediterranean-inspired retreat with her pup Keaton, also known as Keats, and three French hens, who make sure there’s rarely a shortage of fresh eggs.
Inside, LeeAnna worked with a local designer to create a cozy, welcoming and girly home. Outside, she has brought that same warmth and personality to the landscape.
It’s remarkable how much life LeeAnna has brought to this once-vacant property in such a short time. Her home and garden are a wonderful example of how thoughtful restoration, imagination and a lot of care can give an old house an entirely new chapter.
Congratulations, LeeAnna, on being named September Yard of the Month! And if anyone needs us, we’ll be under that yellow-and-white parasol with an Aperol spritz.
